Prof Moustapha Hamdi has been head of department at the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at UZ Brussel since 2011. He presented his PhD thesis at the University of Ghent in 2007 and was appointed professor of Plastic Surgery there. He obtained several awards and grants both nationally and internationally, including the Hans Adrel prize for best scientific publications in Europe. He is an active author of more than 150 publications. Moreover, Prof Dr Hamdi has extensive international experience, is considered one of the best surgeons in the world within aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery. Also, numerous personal surgery techniques have been named after him.
He is ex-president of the microsurgery section of the Royal Belgian Society for Plastic Surgery (RBSPS) and active within the scientific committee of the European Society of Plastic Surgeons (EURAPS). He is also a member of several societies, being the International (ISAPS), American (ASPS and ASRM) and World (WSRM) Societies. He is also a co-founder of the Pyrenean Lodge of Plastic Surgeons (PLPS).
He is also founder of Hamdi Foundation, a charitable foundation aimed at supporting breast cancer patients, raising awareness about breast reconstruction and bridging cultural differences between Europe and the Middle East.
